Biography

BWL leverages on the power of social networking via Facebook, building a lively and engaging community with friendly chatter and irreverent banter. With this balance of fun and seriousness, BWL has a solid foundation on which to build even better platforms for engaging and supporting aspiring writers in Singapore.

As a trusted partner of the National Arts Council(NAC) and English Language Institute of Singapore (ELIS), BWL links the aspiring writers’ community with established Singapore writers and official Writing events in Singapore, such as the Singapore Writers’ Festival. We promote exposure to good writing in all forms, and encourage our members to attend workshops by published poets and writers in Singapore.

Through its work with schools, BWL reaches out to the young writers who would otherwise have lost out on the support given to writing talent in schools. Where schools identify 1% of their students as writing talent to be supported through government-funded activities such as the Creative Arts Programme, BWL is positioned to provide support for the top 10% of the student population. In countries like the United States of America, this top 10% would be considered their Gifted and Talented population.

BWL is also equipped to provide professional mentoring and support to aspiring writers. Our team is comprised of educators with extensive experience in bringing the best out of the best, and industry professionals who know the intricacies of getting a work of literature published. Together, we provide the kind of help and guidance that only those with a passion for the written word can give.

So you can see that BWL is really the place to be if you want to write. Whether you are an aspiring writing professional or a hobbyist who just wants to pen a few short stories in your free time, there is a place for you in the Budding Writers League. We believe that it doesn’t matter where you are when you sign up with the Budding Writers League; it only matters how you turn out.

You just need to supply the passion; we will supply the rest.
