The One that Got Away

Life ultimately brings us back, through tragedy especially, forcing us to confront the past by painful means. Heading back to the dock, to the edge of the water, recalling a childhood spent fishing with a father he loved then. Too bad things never last.
Standing on the end of that peer, waiting for the news that everything was over, he sees it slinking from the depths. Why on today, of all days?
