We all watch the news. Get immune to it. Are we really listening when we see the headline: Soldier killed in Afghanistan. How often do we think about the grief, those left behind, the wives, the girlfriends, the mothers? In this searingly honest first hand account, Cathy McFadden tells us exactly what it feels like to have a son in the front line. In words that are simple yet complex, precise and haunting, she compels us to walk with her throughout her story and that of her ridiculously young son Ash. It should be compulsory reading for all of us who just take it for granted, the dedication of the armed forces. Indeed you will be compelled to read on once you have started this remarkable book and I defy the most hard nosed person not to cry. This army mother is to be congratulated.
