Originally from New Mexico, Betsy considers herself to be an Okie-transplant after moving to Oklahoma as a child. She and her husband live in Guthrie, Oklahoma. She has a two grown children and two grandchildren.
Betsy worked in radio broadcasting for several years in Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, and New Mexico before coming back to Oklahoma and attaining an A. A. S. in Journalism from Northern Oklahoma College in Tonkawa, where she wrote for the college paper, “The Maverick” and worked as the first female police officer for the city of Tonkawa. She served twelve years in the US Army Reserves as a Military Police officer and Drill Sergeant. During the same time period, she worked as a police officer, police sergeant and state trooper with the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety. Currently, she is a Lieutenant assigned to the State Capitol. She holds various degrees in Organizational Leadership, Journalism, and Horticulture and graduates in May 2016 with her MFA in creative writing. She is currently the VP and former President of the Logan County Master Gardeners and the Guthrie Forestry Advisory Board. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Victim’s Impact Panel of Oklahoma and is a child reading tutor with Whiz Kids of Oklahoma. Betsy is a "Life" member of the NRA and the DAV. A member of The American Legion - Post #58, Ladies of Harley, and Harley Owners Group. Betsy enjoys, “digging in the dirt” and riding her Harley in her free time.
