Lexy Courneya
Biography
Lexy Courneya is a college freshman whose infatuation with poetry began 6 years ago. Since then, Lexy has written countless poems on topics ranging from cosmology to homophobia in Russia. Lexy's work has appeared in 8 issues of the national literary arts magazine Teen Ink and been featured on the opening page of Flash. She is best known for her contemporary haikus, including the award-winning "How the Clouds Formed."
Lexy's premier anthology, Bloom, chronicles the metamorphosis of a resurrected phoenix who hymns Mother Nature and erodes oppressive edifices with the same tectonic lips; the collection elucidates natural phenomena and documents a teenager’s journey through abuse, sexual assault, and depression. Through sharing her experiences with trauma, Lexy hopes to bring comfort, validation, and attention to fellow survivors who have long been silenced by rape culture and the stigmatization of mental illness.
