My name is Bob Guttu and I was born in Cleveland Ohio on March 29, 1951. I attended Cleveland public schools and graduated from John Marshall High School in 1969. Upon graduating I held jobs in the trucking industries as a dock hand as well as shipping and receiving. In 1974 I joined the University Circle Police Dept. and ser ved there until May of 1977 when I was sworn into the Cleveland Police Dept.I worked as a zone car patrolman for 7 years then joined the Community Policing Unit and worked out of a sub-station on the east side of the city. My duties included handling non-emergency assignments received from the citizens in the neighborhood , helping to form street clubs, and presenting safety programs for children, adults, and senior citizens. During my career as a Community Policing officer I earned three Distinguished Service Medals including one for helping to solve a homicide in the area where I was working. The other two were for my assistance in lake rescues. Before retiring in 2008 and after 31 years as an officer I was named Police Officer of the year by the Greater Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society. Ibelieve what made my career a success was that I lived and breathed Community Policing for over twenty years and I will always praise the success we had in Cleveland Ohio. I am presently on staff at Cleveland State University and serve as a Crime Prevention consultant and provide Community Policing programs to their officers and any other law enforcement agencies requesting that service.
