Brian Calvert
Biography
Brian Calvert: Started the Dawnbreakers in 1957 and played lead guitar, did arrangements and sang. After the Dawnbreakers, Brian was involved with the Indie label ‘Holyground’ in Wakefield, UK., writing music, arranging, singing and being a session musician on a couple of albums which became collectors’ pieces. ('A to Austr' and 'Astral Navigations' (See http://www.holyground.co.uk/history/historytimes.html ). Brian migrated to South Australia in 1970 and is still active in writing and recording in a home studio. Brian’s career was in software development, working at the University of Leeds until he left for Australia where he formed his own software company.
Tony Foster: Vocalist/entertainer. Following the Dawnbreakers he continued performing in a number of musical/comedy duos for many years in the UK., and still active has his own blues band The Tony Foster band which appears at Harry’s bar in Wakefield and other venues. The book’s genesis was during a trip back to the UK by Brian, who discovered that Tony had kept diaries of all the gigs they’d had; tiny little books with the basics: ‘Crigglestone Working Men’s Club £12 – amplifier blew up’
Brian and Tony collaborated some 20,000 kms apart and wrote the book starting with the diaries, which was self-published in hard back in 1992.
