Briella's father owned a small town newspaper in Sussex county. Since a little girl she always doodled with creative short stories. She searched for something else to write that provided a challenge, something that required interaction with the reader, and she found it at her father's paper. She devised a fictitious employee and started a Dear Abby column in secret with the help of her brother. The column became very popular and inspired many readers to write in their stories for her advice. When her father decided to promote the author is when he discovered his daughter's cloak and dagger charade. He hired her on as a staff writer and kept her Dear Brie title. At the same time she began writing suspense novels and later romance novels which she is known for today.
