Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in rural Mississippi. I was and still is influenced by Mississippians attitude toward mental health and God. I decided to write this book because I realized just how much the views and opinions regarding any form of mental illnesses was deeply rooted. But if wanted to live what I believe to be a functional life, I had to confront these views for what they were.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in my late 40's. One month after graduating with my doctoral degree in 2013 God told me it was time to write my first book. I was 62 years old.
This book is about putting ones faith in Jesus Christ. Being counted-out by society does not mean that we have been counted-out by God. People living with mental illnesses (Mayor depression) need to know that giving-up is just one option among so many more. All the resources we need to live in this changing world can be found in Jesus Christ.
