While I was reading this book, I thought, oh, my god, this was book about me. My name is Marina, too. I love the ocean, too. I am curious person, too. Even I'm not a teenager anymore, and I don't dress like a diva like Marina does, this was a book about me. LOL!
The main character is Marina, a sixteen-years-old girl, who lost her mother at birth. Now she travels around the world with her father. But, she has to settle down, hang out with friends at her age and go to normal school, so her father leaves her with her aunt and cousin. She doesn't like it first, but when she meets Ethan, it's a whole different story. Her whole world changed when she had almost drowned, and there, near that old boat, she saw a mermaid, yes, a mermaid, with a face like hers, eyes like hers, calling her "sister".
And now, her whole world turns upside-down.
I found myself really enjoying this book. I liked the writing. This is my first mermaid book , but it won't be the last. This is young adult book, not much for my age of thirty, but it was entertaining. There were romantic elements in the book, but this book can't be classified as romance. I was expecting more paranormal stuff, but that was it. My opinion is 3,5, but if I have to choose whole number, 4.
I adored this book. A teenage girl inherits a house in England and she discovers whole new world. On her 18th birthday she receives a gift: a house. She grabs the chance for new adventure. From a very normal teenage life, she enters in a world of fairies, ghosts, goblins, demons. What a turn-over! Emma finds out about her family more than she could ever imagine.
I loved Emma's character. She knows what she likes and she fights for it no matter what. Growing up with her uncle and aunt after the death of her parents, she is person who grabs every chance in life with both hands.
The story was well narrated and easy to follow. Fun, entertaining, and light reading. The author created a magical world which I didn't want to leave. I would definitely recommend this book.
This story actually starts many years ago when a man named Clifford was bitten by a snake in Amazon and became the very first demon. One generation after another, there were many like him, but there was one who was different: he wasn't evil. So the first angel was born.
I loved this story, story for eternal fight between angels and demons. You never know who the really good guys are. And the girl between....Taylor struggles with her own nightmares. She is an average girl, noticed by this gorgeous guy Gabriel. Her best friend is more than average. Sam is the girl who is every high school guy's dream. Two of them are total opposites, but perfect match. I liked Taylor's personality, her way to fight the things that scare her. I liked her relationship with her father after her mom passed away.
And the guys, Gabriel and Chris....An angel and demon, two freshmen at college...two guys fighting for the girl. Both gorgeous, both so hot! I loved them both.
This book is part of a trilogy. Great cover, by the way! I adored the first part, I will definitely read the rest of the books. A modern story with a very old theme. Angels and demons, eternal fight between good and evil, right and wrong. But what is actually right and what wrong?
Original review is here:
Immortals guard and transport the souls of the departed to the Well of Souls to be recycled. Many centuries ago the group was separated in two and one of them corrupted some of the souls to be recycled. In this world the souls are eternal and always paired. Life without your soulmate is empty and lonely.
Deanna Cameron was going to the altar as a bride, just to find out that her groom dumped her, and all he left was a text message. She received a new job offer, not knowing how it was going to change her life. Her new boss, Robert, is an Immortal Guardian. His partner, also an Immortal Guardian, Ian, in Deanna recognizes his soulmate, lost centuries ago. So, Robert sends Deanna back to the past, in Highlands of Scotland, five centuries ago, to mortal Ian.
Deanna finds herself trapped in the sixteenth century, with a handsome Highlander whom she cannot resist. Will their love resist the time? Everything comes with a price. Are they ready to pay theirs?
I wasn't expecting anything less good from Laura Eno. I've already read and reviewed "My enchanted life". I absolutely adore her narration. Travelling through time, soulmates, eternal love, I was hooked from the very first moment. Books with Highlanders are my favorites. Classical romances are not my type, but this one set up in two different times took my breath away. I've finished it for one single afternoon. I would recommend this book to everyone.
Seraphin ( Phin) grew up losing her family members one by one. She lost her mother when she was a baby, her father when she was ten, and her grandmother when she was a teenager. The strikes of the life just made her stronger. She lost her beloved teacher, another loss. She found out that she was a mermaid, one more turnover. Everything that happened in her life, only made her stronger as a person. Person who doesn't lie, and doesn't wanna be lied. A person who chooses her friends wisely.
Joseph Merick (Jay) supposed to be Seraphin's partner as a Guardian of the Sea. There were some things about him that I liked, some I didn't. He likes Phin, he looks amazing, knows a lot about the sea. Being Guardian of the Sea brings responsibilities, but there is difference between protecting someone and telling lies all the time. Is he trying to protect Phin just because he loves her, or because he wants them both to be Guardians and protect the sea, or he lies her and has some other things on mind?
There were other characters in the story. Ethan was the son of Phin's foster parents. He was her only friend at the time when she moved into their home. Nassani was Joseph's friend. Does she wanna Jay for herself?
This was a mermaid story that totally got me into. I liked the way this story was narrated. Fiction and fantasy were well plotted. There were so many turnovers and twists. I couldn't predict the end. I'm looking forward to read the next book, to read about the adventures of Phin above or under the sea. This wasn't a story just about mermaids. It was a story about trust, friendship, survival. Story about life.
