Chris Kalyta

Biography

While I write erotica, I feel like I'm really simply writing adventure stories for adults. While my characters may encounter danger, humour and romance, being adults they do engage in sex. I hope you enjoy my stories.
Early in 2014 I plan to publish a light erotic romance fantasy called Love Potion. Later in 2014, I plan to begin publishing an erotic space opera series of ebooks about an interstellar bounty hunter named Minx. Also, in 2014 I may publish a collection of three erotic stories set during the War of 1812.

Smashwords Interview

What is your writing process?
First, I jot down plots whenever I get them - no matter how nonsensical. Later, I go through my available plots and see what strikes me as "wanting to be written". I suppose my subconscious controls which story is chosen at which time. Then I write, letting everything pour out of me. It may take me weeks of one hour sessions, or I may find enough time to sit and write for a three or four-hour stretch, but I keep going until the first draft is completed. After that, I like to move onto a new story, or review and edit an old story. Basically, I like to do something that takes my mind away from the story I've just 'committed to paper'. When I do come back to it for the first of at least three reviews and edits, I'm coming at it fresh and I can turn more critical eye toward the story. This is when the story can change dramatically, or very little. If I have no trouble rereading it at least three times and I still find it enjoyable each time, then it's ready to pass off to one of my editors. I've been blessed to find some friendly people who give the story a good going over, and are open about where they find faults. Once I've gone over the edits and made changes where changes were require, then I publish it somewhere - either for free on a website or as an ebook.
How do you approach cover design?
I try to find something that hints at what is between the covers. I don't need a picture of something as a scene played out in the story, just something that suggests the tone, theme and setting of the book. My wife and I review the image together, critiquing it with regards to the link to the story. I made covers that I thought were striking and eye-catching, although I've encountered a number of people who didn't agree. In fact, some have been very critical of my cover images, even going so far as to call one "horrible". People have different views on what catches their eye. And I'd hope that readers don't choose one of my ebooks simply because it has a snazzy cover. I'd rather they read the blurb, some of the ebook and then decide they want to read more.
