Smashwords Interview

What's the story behind your latest book?
SWINGERS of West London is a romantic comedy set in a West London swing dance class that follows two interweaving storylines. In one, Clive gets dragged along to a dance class, ends up developing a reputation having been falsely arrested on three charges, before he meets Kay, a beginner teacher whom he falls madly in love with... despite the fact she already has a partner called Simon who also works at SWINGERS. In the second storyline, Tamara, a failed ballerina, goes to SWINGERS hoping to reclaim her childhood dream of one day becoming a big name in the dance world the only way she knows how.. by sleeping her way to the top via head teacher, Jon, who is not only married, but is also himself having an extramarital affair with a fellow member of staff. The result means that, although Tamara and Jon's love interest want to scratch eachothers eyes out, they have to pretend they all get along like one big happy family in front of the paying public.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
As I explain in the preface of SWINGERS of West London, I lost my job following an accident that left me largely disabled. A friend recommended that I write comedy to cheer myself up... and the rest was history.
By the end of the year I had 32 episodes (having originally written it for TV), 99% of the necessary extras, locations, and choreographers sourced, a bunch of multinational financial backers interested in supporting it, but despite contacting every production company and agent I could think of, most simply didnt reply, and so I took the side step of releasing my story as a paperback... which then become a bestseller within two days before going on to become an International bestseller.

The dissention in the ranks is clear, although thinly veiled within the SWINGERS "family", but why does everybody hate Tamara? And more importantly, why does Simon want to knock Jon's block off? Either way, with the love of Clive's life firmly out of bounds, a dance class is no place for a naïve and vulnerable man like Clive, especially with so many scheming and manipulative women around him, but was the dance scene really any different when Clive first started, 10 years ago?
