COREY P. SMITH
Author and Credit Awareness Expert/Lecturer

The proverbial phrase, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,” has spoken volumes for Corey P. Smith, noted author and credit awareness expert/lecturer. In fact, he’s taken life’s lemons and squeezed out sweet success for not only himself but countless others who thought they would forever be doomed, thanks to their issues with personal credit. When a homeless man needed to get a handle on his credit, it was Smith’s tutelage and expertise that helped him obtain an apartment. When a friend needed help obtaining bank loans, Smith not only helped him achieve that goal, but he was also instrumental in helping him to purchase cars as well. Underwriters, realtors, attorneys and consumers from around the country have found Smith to be a credible, highly knowledgeable and invaluable resource. And when his business acumen was questioned, he emerged victoriously after appearing before the grand jury. It is for these reasons and more that Corey P. Smith is one of the nation’s foremost trailblazers in his arena.

As a leader in his field, Corey P. Smith is totally committed to providing credit awareness and educational empowerment by sharing his knowledge with as many audiences as he can. He is the author of How to Outsmart the Credit Bureaus, and his latest release is The Conspiracy of Credit. Smith is also author of the documentary, “Credit is for Poor People.” The difference between him and other financial advisors is this, “I simply provide people with information they can use rather than offer them a solution to the problem that just may or may not work for them. Knowledge is power, and I am pleased to share knowledge that has been tested and tried.”

A native of Memphis, Tennessee, Smith attended Cleveland State Community College on a basketball scholarship. He later graduated from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. As a high school History teacher with a promising future ahead of him, the Navy veteran one day found himself in a rather peculiar situation: he was living in an unfurnished apartment that had no electrical power. Both his personal and professional statuses presented two revelations. Professionally, he realized that the public school system did not have a curriculum that effectively taught students the much-needed, real life relevance of financial literacy. Specifically, he was troubled by the fact that they were creating a curriculum that did not consist of any classes related to credit, banking or finance. Personally, sleeping on the floor in an apartment (that he couldn’t even secure in his own name because of his credit rating) was bothersome.

Motivated by his professional and personal situations, it did not take Smith long to embrace a desire to engage in promoting social economic awareness. Accordingly, he embarked upon a journey that would change people’s lives for the better. In order to do this, his first order of business would be to address his own credit issues. Smith made a conscious decision to quit teaching school and resign from the Navy to dedicate all of his time and attention to gaining as much knowledge as possible on every aspect of credit. His quest was successful, and today, Smith travels the nation spreading this message of empowerment. He is married and the father of three daughters.
