Busting out of the fanfiction scene in 2012 with the publication of her first original full-length book, Dawn in the Orchard, Cooper West has been writing stories that capture the heart and imagination. She is now known for her bestselling book The Protector, set in her unique Guardsman’verse of weredogs and bonded pairs, and plans to continue to release more books in that series.
She’s still a fangirl at heart, with an ever-lasting crush on Chris Evans and an ever-rotating list of OTPs. Bisexual and raised in a queer household, Cooper has been writing “slash” since she was a teenager and did not understand much about biology, but she’s learned a lot since then!
Cooper is a pacifist, progressive, intersectional feminist, which deeply informs the stories she writes. Her characters experience real-life issues that affect their relationships with everyone around them, no matter what the setting or genre, but there is always a happy ending waiting for them – because life is grim-dark enough as it is and Cooper wants to bring some joy into everyone’s lives (characters and readers included).

When a friend who works with animal control asks Greg Lademar to foster Parker, a severely injured dog who has just been rescued from an abusive home, the last thing Greg expects is to be dragged into the mysterious world of the Guardsmen — the bonded pairs of humans and their weredogs, known as Protectors, who are literally the stuff of myths and legends.
