In 2016, Creekstone Press, based in Smithers, British Columbia, Canada, is moving into its 18th year. Since our first book came out in 1998, we have published non-fiction, fiction, poetry, photography and painting, and featured writers and artists from northern BC.
Sidetracked tells the fascinating tale of the discovery of the Monroe Dinosaur Trackway in northeastern British Columbia and, in the telling, weaves in stories of other major fossil finds in BC and across North America, many of which demonstrate how egos, turf wars and a lack of resources diminish the science of paleontology.
Auxiliary RCMP cop Margo Jamieson, a newcomer to town, finds a nasty note in a dead man’s jacket. The discovery sends her looking for help from an attractive local historian. They uncover a trail of blackmail and misplaced desire that takes them behind the picturesque façade of this small mountain town. It may be spring, but the melting snow reveals things that might have better been left buried.
