Growing up in a small town in Kansas, I always loved writing. While my brother's were in the yard playing or fighting or hanging our with neighborhood kids, I was in my room reading or writing. As such, I began to pursue my dream. When I graduated from high school, the Navy had a 2 year wait on journalists, so I chose to go in as a linguist. The Navy chose the language...Spanish. So, I became a Spanish interpreter for them. After getting out of the Navy in 2013, I was bounced from job to job through various temp agencies. Finally, I chose to continue some of the stories I had started. The Champagne Coven is the first story I have taken the time to consider a completed work, with sequel potentials. The other stories I've worked on before are still being worked on and should also be released in just a little more time.

Smashwords Interview

What's the story behind your latest book?
The Champagne Coven was originally inspired by an innate interest in the paranormal. Being a practicing witch, and having certain gifts or instincts that I was born with, it only made sense that some piece of that part of me would make it into my story. Also, I figured it might make a good start and leave sequel potentials dealing with Vampires, Werewolves, Ghosts, and various other branches of the Paranormal World. While the story didn't exactly go the direction I anticipated that it would go, it certainly did go to an ending that I felt was acceptable.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
My only motivation to become an indie author was my absolute love of writing. What helped to push me in that directions was the fact that most publishers seem to expect that books be a certain length, and with 'The Champagne Coven', without turning it into much more adult content, I really couldn't find a way to extend the story without ruining the possibility of having a sequel. Additionally, being a freelance writer, it became clear from some of the job postings that I was seeing that books of this size would potentially be ideal for ebooks, thus allowing me to get my foot in the door. Too many agents and publishers saw the word count or number of pages in my initial proposal and replied with 'nah, we're not interested' type messages. It was finally time for me to take the initiative and try to do it myself.
