What is your writing process?
Typically, I wake up and don't want to think about work. So then I lay there trying to think how to make a plot work or think of some dialog that would work for a character. I have found that outlining an entire book ahead of time does not work, it spoils the fun of having the characters think up words and actions "on their own".
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I am from the Midwest. There are a lot of farmers there. People are independent and conservative. When I was growing up I used to get in trouble for looking out of the window a lot. I guess school did a poor job of harnessing my creativity.
