Smashwords book reviews by DLoera

  • The Pelagius Game - Book One: Valstain on Dec. 31, 2013

This is the first time I’ve ventured over to Smashwords and I was more than pleased with this book. I knew I had made an awesome selection within the first couple pages and I’ll look forward to reading more by this author. The story is cloaked in mystery from the start. I also liked that the author backtracked a bit so we could understand Tim a bit more and see what makes him tick. When a mysterious visitor shows up and tells Tim he has been accepted at a prestigious seminary and that in an envelope is a winning lottery ticket for his father, you know this isn’t the average fantasy story. The story unfolds into a thrill packed ride with just the right amount of suspense to keep you on the edge of your seat and glued to this book. Great read! I’ll be back for more books by this author.
  • Reiki - A Powerful Catalyst for Personal Transformation and Healing on Feb. 25, 2014

Several friends of mine have taken Reiki classes and I was quite curious about the topic. When I came across this book, I had a feeling it would be the right fit for me and I was correct. The author does a great job in providing detailed information in a way that is easy to remember and use. I liked the student testimonials and I also liked that the author shared his first hand expertise regarding therapist/client matters. I felt this book was actually several books in one as the author takes considerable time to cover Reiki from a description about it that is quite thorough all the way through to practicing Reiki. He also discusses Pet Reiki which is an area I am highly interested in. This book has a great amount of information on Reiki and the chakras and also, positive motivational writing that I found very beneficial. This is a real gem of a book and I highly recommend it.

  • Thump on March 10, 2014

Thump enters with a bang- this was a powerhouse read that caused me not to get my errands ran this past weekend. If you want a thrilling read that you absolutely will not want to put down – Thump is the book of choice. The characters are well crafted and the plot so spot on it sucks you in fast. Beyond excellent read.
  • The Ghost in the Closet on April 30, 2014

I liked this book. I found the plot to be quite good. The characters were well created. There was a nice amount of extra detail (such as how Dumdie ended up with her name) that gave valuable insight to the background of the characters. The ghost details fit in well- such as one lowering the temperature in a room and little details like this one really added to the plot and gave it depth. This isn’t your typical ghost tale. It is a tale of a woman who (fortunately or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) has a special gift of being able to see and talk with ghosts. To add to the tale, Dumdie who has been ridiculed and shunned throughout her life, finds herself living in a homeless shelter. Interesting enough, this turn of events may be an opportunity to prove herself and not a defeat. The author mixes together a ghostly tale, a bit of drama and a trail of clues to make a mystery.
  • The Billionaire's Desideratum on July 30, 2014

I read 50 Shades of Grey a few months ago. It wasn’t a book I sought out, it was actually in a box of books given to me by a friend. The same friend recommended this book and I found it to be a great read. I actually found that I liked it better than the 50 Shades story as it held my interest from start to finish. If you have read 50 Shades or not and are looking for something to add some spice in to your reading – check this book out. It is a quality read and is a story you won’t soon forget.
