Daphne Burgess (nee Drayton)was born in the wine growing area of the Hunter Valley, Australia. Daphne spent her early years in the property known as Bellevue which her great-grandfather established in the 1860's. Daphne believes that Drayton's wines survive today because of the skill of the five generations of Draytons and their sheer tenacity and determination. It is this sheer tenacity and determination that made Daphne spend many years researching and writing her memoirs and family history.
The Draytons' are one of the Hunter's pioneering wine families and are the only wine family found on the original maps of land grants that are still operating today.
