Nealson grew up in a devout Salvationist family in the Northeastern region of the United States. His father, mother, and younger sister are Salvation Army officers. Nealson holds a B.A. in English from Gordon College and an M.Sc. in Political Theory from the London School of Economics. Currently he works as a Consultant in New York City.

David grew up in a strong Salvationist family in Australia. His parents and parents-in-law are all Salvation Army officers. David has been an officer for over 10 years and in that time has served at Box Hill corps and as Territorial Youth Secretary. David alongside his wife Kylie with their two boys Noah & Josiah are currently stationed as Corps Officers at South Barwon in Victoria, Australia.
