David Middleton was a news reporter in local newspapers and radio before becoming a motorsport photo journalist. Working in commercial PR and exhibitions and conferences also enabled him to travel extensively. In 1988 he had his "green epiphany" standing on a bridge in Pittsburgh. In 1991 he helped launch the MEBC and became CEO of this business group dedicated to sustainable development, was Secretary General of The Urban Renewal Foundation and CEO of the UK branch of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. He retired from these responsibilities in 2013.
