Deborah is a native of Southern California and a graduate from San Diego State University. She has lived in the Southeast for the past fifteen years with her husband, dog and cat. After reading a ton of books and reviewing them on her blog 'The Reading Chick', she finally decided to write her first novel, Midnight Metamorphosis.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes. It was the Wizard of Oz by Frank L. Baum. I actually still have my collection of Oz books. They really triggered my imagination!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes, I was in college and I wrote a short story called Believe. My uncle was a victim of depression and killed himself on Christmas Eve. As a young adult, I watched my mother's grief for her brother and wrote Believe. It's the story of a young girl whose mother gets bad news and takes her dog for a walk at night. It's Christmas Eve and as she's walking she's thinking about life and death. She hears a jingling in the sky and looks up to see Santa and his sleigh fly overhead. It's a moment of discovery and hope for better things. I have it posted on my blog if anyone is interested in reading it!
