Thomas J. Mason is a retired Information Technology Manager who lives in the High Desert north of Los Angeles with his wife of forty-two years and their dog, Tara. He discovered, after falling in love with the beautiful redhead who was to become his wife, that in addition to her incredibly cute redheaded twins, she had six other children. But by then it was too late. He was hooked. She continues to be the best thing that ever happened to him. These days, he puts his great-grandchildren to sleep by singing Irish and Scottish traditional songs while accompanying himself on his Irish flat drum, called a bodhrán.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
I am still a computer geek. Despite being retired, I fix neighbors', family's and friends' computers. My computer is constantly being upgraded. The greater the complexity, the greater chance of failure. Right now, the computer I use for editing video is at it's simplest and it's most powerful. Project files are on one RAID array, temporary files are on a separate drive and composed video files are written to a second RAID array. Now I have no excuse not to edit my backlogged family videos. When my computer is up and running, as it is now, I sing Irish and Scottish traditional music and accompany myself on my Irish flat drum, a bodhrán.
How do you approach cover design?
First: What is the concept of the book? What is the effect the author wants to create? Second: What image do I have in mind that will convey the essence of the book? Third: How do I fit the Title and Author's Name into or around the cover image.
These are my favorite Bible verses. They deal with God’s Love, things that God does not love, the power of faith and, for me, an insight into Jesus’s personality. Jesus’s handling for sin was not punishment and suffering, but just stop sinning and live righteously.
Why Avoid Prostate Surgery? Three words: Impotence. Incontinence. Sterility. My first Urologist told me that after the prostate surgery I had finally agreed to accept, I would be IMPOTENT and INCONTINENT. I practically ran out of his office. I had enjoyed having a sex life and, since I was two or so years old, I have enjoyed the freedom of not having to wear a diaper. I was freaked out.
The HORRIBLE Truth About Reincarnation is that we do come back. Death is not an escape. The Near Death Experience that I had this lifetime showed me that God is with us always and we are already with God, wherever we are. As God’s children we are always welcome to come Home for a visit, but God did not create us as individuals, with self-determinism, to hang around Heaven all day.
God gave you life to have a life. You took a body to have a life. My idea is to give you a positive pep talk so you will realize the importance of maintaining a positive attitude while dealing with cancer. Cancer can make you feel helpless, but I want to tell you, as someone who has cancer, stage four prostate cancer, metastasized to my bones, that there is something you can do about it.
This book is not a medical report. I am not a doctor, medical or otherwise. I am a cancer survivor (touch wood, cross fingers, utter prayer that my survivor status continues). This book is a report of the things I learned because I had cancer. These are the three steps to health: connect to God for strength, take personal responsibility for your body and your life, then handle the physical.
