My writing has been a learning curve that has included a plethora of rejections and latterly a bit of success.
I grew up watching 'Rawhide', 'Wagon Train' on television and the Western films in the cinema. I've been along the West Coast of America and seen the ghost towns and viewed the end of the Oregon Trail just as the travellers of the 1800s would've experienced it. Fantastic. I have visited the film sets in Alicante, Spain where the Spaghetti Westerns were made.
I read books of the Western genre.
I decided that the quote from Mark Twain - 'write what you know' - was a good idea. I also write about a period in history that intrigues and fascinates me.
