Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up not far from where I live now. In Ryhope Village which sits on the outskirts of Sunderland. Sunderland was a town dominated by the shipyards and mines. My father, his father and his father before him all worked down the mine. I left school with dreams of becoming a singer, then worked for Imperial Tobacco selling cigarettes for 10 years, then I left to start my own dog adventure business. This eventually led to me becoming a dog trainer, author and a pet business coach.
My home town and upbringing has had a big influence on my writing. I try to pepper my books with stories about my experiences in life, and of course the many dogs I've been lucky enough to share my life with.
When did you first start writing?
I started writing in 2014, when I started building an email list and doing daily dog training advice emails. This progressed to books, courses and seminars. From when I left school until 2014, the only thing I'd written was a few shopping lists and my betting slip for the grand national once a year.
