This book is a simple reader, easy for reading to a daughter or son who has been abused. Abuse is difficult to talk about, and the abused are often filled with shame and distrust. A book you can look at together can defuse the discussion and provide distance. This could be very helpful for adults with low literacy skills as well. I'd encourage anyone working with sexual abuse victims to have this on their bookshelf.
Creepy Crazy Christmas is exactly as titled - creepy and a bit crazy! The eight stories in the book each touch on an event in the very dysfunctional Grimes family, and each one has a twist at the end that will cause you to tilt your head to the side and say, "Wha?" and then laugh. If, that is, you have an evil mind as I do. Best story is "Winnie's Christmas Goodies". The last story in the book is perhaps the weakest. I love the ideas in these stories but wish there was more to each one - I want more info on the family, more fun exploring the horrible ways they are to each other. Reminiscent of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", these could be great with a bit more flesh on their bones (as it were).
