This is good, grippy fiction. It tickles reality while punching you in the face with great sci-fi/fantasy. I definitely recommend it for everyone, but especially the twisted few. Kevin Gerard The Conor and the Crossworlds series http://www.conorandthecrossworlds.com
  • Cheyenne Jackson (The Case of the Hanged Harlot) on Dec. 24, 2014

I think women will enjoy this first installment of the Cheyenne Jackson series, simply because of the main character. Cheyenne is an intelligent, resourceful, obstinate woman who never backs down from a man, a courtroom battle, or even her enemies, who'd like nothing better than to do away with her. The stage is set beautifully, the mystery of Wyoming and its diverse array of residents, the murder of a woman from a powerful family, and Cheyenne Jackson, a lawyer who digs deeply into the case until she uncovers more than she can handle, almost. Welch had me guessing throughout most of the novel. It was this character, that character, then her, then him, truly the mark of a good mystery writer. I was pleasantly shocked when I discovered the real culprit at the end of the story. I did manage to hazard a guess at Cheyenne's love interest, because no mere mortal man would be enough for her. I enjoyed this story immensely. It drew me in within the first few pages, and I finished it rather quickly. Too quickly, I'm afraid, because now I'm back to New Yorker magazines until Welch publishes the second Cheyenne Jackson novel. Read this book -- you won't be disappointed!
