Suzanne Cass

Suzanne Cass has always had a fascination with the tough resilience of people who live in our amazing red-dirt outback country. Much of her adolescence was spent working as a jillaroo in the Snowy Mountains, forming her love of enigmatic, outback heroes in wild, passionate, dangerous stories. When not writing about the characters that inhabit her head, Suzanne can be found prowling the Perth beaches with her border collie, or encouraging from the sidelines as her two sons play sport. Her debut novel, Island Redemption won the Romance Writers of Australia award for best unpublished romance novel of 2016.

Smashwords Interview

What led you to write your Island Redemption/ Island Souls series?
I wrote this book because I am a huge fan of the reality TV shows where contestants are marooned on an island and have to compete with each other to survive. I often found myself becoming completely invested in the personalities and intrigue of the show. So much so that in the end I just had to use my penchant for a good romance and write about it. What better place to fall in love than on the white sandy beaches of a deserted island, surrounded by sparkling azure water and balmy tropical skies? Add to that the question of how the chance of winning a million dollars would affect that love affair and you have certainly got the spice needed to give this story conflict and high drama.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Australia's capital, Canberra ( I can hear a few of you shudder right now) which is actually surprisingly a great city to live in. It's close to the beach and the Snowy Mountains, both landscapes that helped shape my youth and eventually my writing style. I spent much of my teenage years either riding horses in the mountains ( I worked as a jillaroo for a few years after I graduated high school on a sheep farm near Adaminaby) or playing hooky in the rolling sand dunes of Batemans Bay. My love of the beach led to my fascination with writing a beach read - Island Redemption and Island Souls - and my love of the mountains and farming drove me to write my rural romance, Bronze the Sky.
