E.J. Mara

Biography

Louisiana-born EJ Mara remembers sitting in her room at six-years old and writing a poem called "Seashore." It went something like, "When I'm lonely, when I'm sad, I go to the seashore, I lay in the sand ..." She was proud of "Seashore" and wrote several dozen more poems within the next few weeks. Eventually, she moved on to writing and illustrating her own books and sharing these stories with her classmates.

Now, EJ Mara continues to write stories. In 2015 she published the first book within The South Louisiana High Series and she's currently working to complete this YA series. Most of her stories feature main characters with superhuman abilities and are set in her home-state of Louisiana.

Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
Writing is like getting a chance to step out of my own life and the limitations that come with it, and become someone else. Putting on another person's experiences/perspective and then sharing these with readers is phenomenal. I love exercising empathy in this way and encouraging others to do the same.
What do your fans mean to you?
When someone reads one of my stories and enjoys it, they're not a "fan" to me, they're a fellow reader. I respect and admire them for taking the time to read my work and mulling it over. So, I'm grateful for readers and I love hearing their thoughts on my work and on literature in general.
