Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I do! I was ten years old, and my best friend at the time and I decided we would write a novel. We decided it would be about a super-powered squirrel from another planet, who in the guise of a mild-mannered little park resident traveled to Earth and befriended a reporter - taking her back to his planet. It was terrible! But I learned a lot from the process.
What is your writing process?
It depends. Some stories start with an idea - an image or a phrase that sticks with me until I flesh it out as an idea. In those cases, they often spring from my head fully-formed and in armor, ready to batle their way onto the page.
Others start as a prompt or a theme that I need to begin from. They take a bit more work to develop and nurture, but once I see them blossom, they are truly a delight!
