Liz Miller is an independent law firm administrator with 38 years experience working with law firms. In January of 1979 Liz began her career as a legal secretary. Two years later, she obtained her paralegal degree from the Paralegal Institute of New York. She continued her career as a paralegal for several years. In 1988, Liz opened Paralegal Professionals in Tampa, working as an independent paralegal for attorneys who specialized in personal injury, medical malpractice, and general trial work. Offered an opportunity to segue her career into law office administration by one of her clients, in 1997, Liz turned her focus to managing law firms. She subsequently finished her education, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and then an MBA with a specialty in finance. Through a series of career transitions between 1997 and 2015, Liz now works as an independent law firm administrator helping start-up and established firms with managing the business of practicing law (TM).

Liz is a member of the editorial advisory board of Law Office Manager magazine and she writes and blogs for the magazine. Her professional associations include the National Association of Legal Administrators, the Suncoast Association of Legal Administrators, the American Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the Society of Human Resources Managers. Recently, she was a guest speaker at a webinar hosted by Law Office Manager magazine with her co-author Joryn Jenkins, "How to Manage Client Billing & Collections". She writes the Practice Points for the ABA Solo and Small Firm Litigation Section.

Liz believes that attorneys sacrifice billable client hours when they handle administrative functions. She helps attorneys focus their time and energy on practicing law and taking care of their clients to build attorney/client relationships, while she manages the “business” of practicing law.
