The villanelle is a form often used for serious subjects like Dylan Thomas's poem to his dying father, "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night." As a child, Glodek heard an old man in the pew behind her blabbing a play-by-play of a Yankee game throughout the Catholic Mass without missing one Latin response, many of which were repetitious and suitable for a villanelle.
