What's the story behind your latest book?
I fell in love with the West Highland Line from Glasgow Queen Street to Oban, the ferry crossing to Mull, the tarns and wildlands of the Isle, conceived an outrageously hypersexual fearless Scottish anti-heroine, a violent, bisexual, female, feminist freedom fighter, Isla McNair - then made her my Girl on the Train, my naked Gladiator, my fighting girl!
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
I wrote a story about chasing an elusive butterfly when I was eight years-old.
