Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Reykjavík, Iceland, in an area called Skerjafjörður, which means, reef fjord, and is south of the airport. This was a secluded area, and in those days, most aircraft had propellers, so you would hear them come in, and you would allow your imagination to run wild.

We were influenced by American TV, as Iceland had no TV, till the middle 60's, around the time Surtsey erupted out of the sea, and we had only two radio stations: The Icelandic one, and AFRTS from The NATO Base, so books and home made entertainment was the in thing. - I used to put on plays in my back garden for the kids in the neighbourhood, so I think that because our imagination, wasn't stifled by information overflow, X-boxes and the like, our imagination kept us going.

I think this is why I'm very nostalgic, and when I mention what I call 'GOOD MOVIES', the first question I get, is:"Is it in Black and White, or is it actually in Colour?"
What motivated you to become an indie author?
When I was a kid, children's books, weren't easily available in Iceland, and were darn expensive, owing to how small the country is (then around 280 000 inhabitants, and now around 300 000 inhabitants), so my mum literally wrote books for my brother and myself.

Unfortunately, none of the manuscripts survive. She did, translate information, when she was a host nation teacher at A.T. Mahan, Elementary School, at the Keflavík NATO BASE, which was then plagiarized by her successor, and he has been profiting from her work. - That particular book, was on the Yule Lads, or Santa's helpers; I guess he ended up on Santa's naughty list for that one. (He says laughing out loud).
