In Jewish myth, Lilith is a monster that steals away babies in the night. Before that, though, she was the first wife of Adam, cursed by God for refusing to submit to her husband. She suffered that her children would be killed rather than submit. Here is a twist on an old myth: a modern Lilit grieves the loss of her first child in this fairytale retelling that is both dark and hopeful.
