Ian Luke

Biography

Born in 1966, most of my growing up was done on a dairy farm just outside the border town of Echuca. I started work as a clerk in a law firm in 1984, and within 5 years had been elevated to the position of "Managing Law Clerk". From there I became "Practice Manager" before leaving that profession in 2006. My 1st Malamute came in 1991 as a wedding present. And I've been fortunate enough since then share my life with a number of these wonderful dogs.

"Frozen Below" is my first novel. It has allowed me to write about the wonderful Malamute breed as a working dog, while looking at the question of "what would happen if the climate changed ?" A sequel is in the works, and I am looking forward to continuing the story, and sharing the ride with anyone who wants to come along. I was delighted when it reached Number 1 on Amazon Australia's Drama list.

"Kimba The Pet Shop Puppy" is my first children's book, and addresses in a small way the issue of responsible dog ownership, an issue I'm passionate about. More children's books are on the way.

My two "Buyer's Guides", on the Alaskan Malamute and the Siberian Husky, are short ebooks, written in the hope of providing people some warts and all information before they buy that cute bundle of fluff.

Currently I'm working on a novel based loosely on my own real life experiences working in a law firm that specialised in Criminal Law.

Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up on a dairy farm just outside the border town of Echuca (on the border of the Australian States of Victoria and New South Wales). My folks share farmed with Dad's brother. I've always felt the chores that came with growing up on a working farm helped shape the person I am. That flowed through to my approach in work and indeed in writing. And my love of animals, particularly dogs came from my childhood, and flows through my writing.
When did you first start writing?
While working in the Legal profession, I wrote- letters, briefs, that sort of thing. I honed my skills over 2 decades behind a desk. Once I left that profession, the creative juices started flowing and things rolled from there.
