Indira Guha Patra

Biography

Born in Kolkata, India on the 19th of November 1988, Indira Guha Patra belongs to a middle-class but educated family. She went to Carmel Convent High School at Durgapur and then to B.D.M. Institute (now B.D.M. International) in Kolkata. She studied Integrated M.Sc. in Biotechnology at St. Xavier’s College, Kolkata, following which she started working as a Research Fellow at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology. This science-oriented education, however, could not suppress her creativity. Her real passion lies in depicting reality, nature, and human emotions and intertwining them with her imagination to create a rich tapestry where reality and fiction merge beautifully. She started her writing career 4 years back with her debut novel ‘Chasing Dreams’ following which she published a short story ‘The Promise’, both of which became a great success. Recently, she has also stepped into the world of blogging as well as poetry. Her latest book, 'Baby Fights Corona', her first illustrated children's book has just launched. She is a new-born writer who pledges to write anything and everything. Her dream is to publish enough books of varied genres to fill a library of her own.

Smashwords Interview

1. What or who inspired you to become a writer?
From a very young age I had a die-hard passion for writing. In addition, it was my mother, who had great literary knowledge and love for literature which she unknowingly passed on to me in due course of time. Another fact is the great writers, whose books I had read in the past years, inspired me, and encouraged me to become one among them.
2. What is the greatest difficulty you faced as a new author?
Recognition. You have published an excellent debut novel and is all set to greet the world as a brand-new author but then suddenly you get the reality check. No one is ready to accept you as an author and you have a hard time convincing people of the quality of your work barring a few lucky ones who become bestsellers overnight. But with patience and persistence, this wall of ice can be broken, and one can establish himself/herself as a successful author. This applies to me as well to many other new authors.
