Kate Kindle's first thriller, Angel's Requiem, stands out like the genuine article in a gallery of fakes. Her characters are fresh and the story keeps you guessing at every page turn. Ex-NYPD cop Aidan brings sensitive muscle to leading lawyer Libby's unfettered sex appeal, without falling into the one dimensional macho cop mold. Dave the dutiful doctor doesn't make quite the same bold showing as Aidan, but successfully rounds out the self-dubbed 'three musketeers.' A grisly murder in Central Park sends them jetting across the globe (and you flying through the pages) as they desperately try to unravel an ever more complex web of shameless lies, ancient curses, and brutal murders. The plot zigs and zags, but rarely drags as the trio traipses across continents in search of truth. Kindle weaves historical fact and thrilling fiction together with her carefully constructed settings, from NYC's Gaelic Park to London's Piccadilly Circus to the Vatican. Society's elite don't take kindly to their snooping, and danger follows them at every turn. Angela, matriarch of the troubled Nasi family, inspired by visions from the lion of St. Mark sings the final verse of their requiem, spurring the conflict to it's breathtaking climax. A few plot holes require small leaps of faith to overlook, but nothing could get me to put it down!
