Biography

Born in Kent England in 1930 Educated at Rochester Tech Joined the Fleet Air arm as an Aircraft Artificer Apprentice in 1946 aged sixteen Retired from the service with the rank of chief petty officer in 1970 and migrated to Australia. Teachers training at Hawthorn Vic for a Dip Ed Retired in 1990 after twenty years as a technical teacher at RMIT Other qualifications include a Mechanical Engineering Certificate from Neyland Tech in Wales and an Aircraft Engineering certificate from RMIT Previous books published and shared with Pamela Griffiths include Oceans Apart, a book of poetry and Tandem Tales, a book of short stories; both through Amazon. Currently a widower living in Romsey Vic Hobbies, apart from writing, include working in wood and metal, gardening and playing bridge twice a week.

The story starts in Devonport dockyard as a new ship's company join a helicopter aircraft carrier currently being refitted in the dockyard. Thommo is a senior Petty officer, almost at the end of his time in the Royal Navy, hence the title. He becomes a mentor to three young mechanics sent to work with him during their two year commission on board the ship known affectionately.
