Jesi Lea Ryan grew up in the Mississippi River town of Dubuque, IA. She holds bachelor degrees in creative writing and literature and a masters degree in business. She considers herself a well-rounded nerd who can spend hours on the internet researching things like British history, anthropology of ancient people, geography of random parts of the world, bad tattoos and the paranormal. She currently lives in Madison, WI with her husband and two exceptionally naughty kitties.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Dubuque, Iowa, a couple of blocks from the Mississippi River. And though I moved away many years ago, it will always be a part of me. My Arcadia series is largely set in Dubuque. In fact, in the first book, my main character attended the same high school I did.
What is your e-reading device of choice?
I own both a Nook Color and a Kindle Fire. I like the functionality of my Nook better. The books have page numbers, it is easier to organize my books into shelves. But the Kindle was necessary because so many authors that I enjoy reading are on Amazon exclusive contracts, so if I wanted to read their work, I either had to do it on my laptop or breakdown and buy a Kindle. I now use my Kindle most of the time.
Some gifts just aren’t worth it. Arcadia is sick of being used and abused for her psychic gifts. It was bad enough to be exploited by a madman, but when the users are closer to home, she must decide how far she is willing to go for others, and when she needs to watch out for herself.
Since her family life imploded and her psychic gifts began to arise, Cady has struggled to fit her normal life without going crazy from the constant presence of emotional energy. Her grades have tanked. But a chance meeting with another gifted girl online opens up a whole new world of possibilities. Unfortunately, this new world comes at an awful price.
