Joe Travis

Biography

I think we will start this bio while I was in grade school. Yes, I spent most summers in Wyoming starting in 1952. I started my working life there working on a ranch, riding fence, owned by family friends in 1954. I managed to use at least part of my summer’s income to start learning to fly. I also managed to acquire a rifle and a pistol, a Colt .45 Automatic Government model and rifle, a surplus Springfield model 1903A1. At fifteen, I joined another family friend in supporting seismology crews in the field. Yes, I needed fake ID to work there at that age, doing what we did and for whom we did it. If all of this sounds familiar, it should as I used much of my own life as a blueprint for the character of Josh. Thank you Hemmingway and many others on that piece of information. Authors call it writing what you know about…. This story and the ones to follow are not autobiography’s in anyway though. On that note, I’ll give you a little more of my bio for a blueprint to the next novel. I enlisted in the Air Force the last day of September 1959, and I became a weather observer. My first assignment was in Klamath Falls, Oregon on an Air Defense Command installation on a civilian airfield. In April of 1962, I arrived in France for my next assignment. There I became a combat weather observer amongst several other things.
On that note, I will continue my bio with the next book. Until then live life fully and observe what is going on around you like there will be no tomorrow. You to may want to write a novel one day and you have to understand those stories are all around you, all the time. You, like me, only need to open our minds to them.
