Jon P Wells

Biography

Jon P Wells was born in 1962. Travel and years of life experience showed him that the truth is often stranger than fiction, and that there is a mystery everywhere you go and in everyone you meet.

The international thriller Devil's Breath, his first novel, races from the desolate radioactive wastelands of Chernobyl to the wealthy suburbs of LA, and questions whether what we are told by the authorities actually reflects what happens when disaster strikes.

He lives in a quiet beach town in Tasmania, Australia.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
I guess I'm what you might call a "late bloomer" as I didn't start writing fiction until my mid 40's.
I work in engineering but knew I wanted to do something else, something unusual, but I didn't know what. Then one day I was almost hit by a truck crossing a road, and started thinking about what would have happened if I had witnessed a stranger being hit, and when I went to help saw a gun and my photo next to them on the road. That was the day I started thinking in stories and writing them down.
I sometimes think of myself as an accidental author.
What is your writing process?
It seems everyone has their own process. Mine is to write the first scene of a story and the last, then write a whole lot of fun scenes that will hopefully fit in the story to take the hero (and reader) from the beginning to the end. I also write slowly, and edit as i write, so when I finish a scene I might only write 150 words in an hour, but those 150 words will be very close to the finished text.
Most of my book was written on a broken old laptop (I'm writing on it now), because the most important thing for me in getting a book written is not the tools, its the discipline to actually sit down and write,
