What's the story behind your latest book?
"Try Anything Twice" came from at least two different perspectives: my observations about sex, and about love/friendship.
Regarding sex, I was raised in a family where it was taboo to talk about it. When I looked for answers outside the family I found more confusion than anything else. People generally seemed to have all sorts of hang-ups about various aspects of sex, so I found myself wondering what our lives would be like if we had been raised to take it for granted--if sex, as well as sexual diversity, was welcomed as natural and normal, and healthy. What if sexual orientation and gender identity were simply non-issues in our lives?
Regarding love and friendship, it seems to me there is so much stuff that gets in the way of it, unnecessarily. Okay, granted that's what makes a close friend or partner so special, but what would it be like to meet someone and, somehow, be friends at first sight? I've had dreams in which I've met a stranger who was immediately a friend. I wanted to write about it.
