When did you first start writing?
Pretty much when I was in single digits. I loved to write stories and poems when I was a kid, and I even got a poem published in a book when I was around 12 or 13. But as I got older, my interest in science superseded it, and my writing became a distant memory as I concentrated on A-levels, degrees, and jobs. I rediscovered my passion when I became unemployed, and once again had the time to focus on the words. I don't write as often as I'd like these days (university studies and volunteer work get in the way a bit) but I'm still plugging away at my third novel.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
It was predominantly a control issue. I wanted to be able to tell the story I had in my head my way. Plus it took the pressure off having to persuade a publisher to accept my manuscript.
These days, due to other commitments, I don't have much time for writing, so it's nice not to have to deal with the stress of deadlines that would inevitably come from having a publisher riding my back (that is if I was able to get one in the first place).
