Smashwords Interview

Why did you write this book?
Not everyone gets to pull up stakes and move to Paris. When I told people of my time there, I saw wonder in their eyes, but also an underlying sadness. For myriad reasons they would never be able to do what I did. I wrote the book with them in mind, to let them live vicariously through my experiences, from arriving not knowing a soul, searching for an apartment, enrolling in language school, meeting friends, and enemies. If it gives just one person the courage to do it, I’d be ecstatic, and love to hear about it. As I say in the book, "I can't promise everything that happened to me will happen to you. I can only hope."
What drew you to Paris in the first place?
My first trip to Europe was the typical London, Paris, Nice, Rome circuit. I loved them all, but there was something about Paris that stuck with me. I remember stepping off the shuttle near the Arc. The moment my feet hit the ground, I wanted to stay. I was fascinated trying to understand the street signs, billboards, and what each pastry was in the windows.
