Kvaad Press is one of the smallest of the small presses and the brainchild of writer Kevin Killiany.
Kevin has been an elementary school teacher, corporate trainer, and community college instructor. Outside the classroom Kevin has worked with at-risk youth in the community, been an intervention counselor, and a support services case manager. Three decades of working with others have shown him what people are capable of given guidance, encouragement, and the tools they need to get the job done. He also understands that doing the job right is important -- that pride in craftsmanship is central to a person's appreciation of their own worth.
Kevin combined these life lessons with his love of storytelling to forge the guiding principles of Kvaad Press: To seek out new writers, to help each writer reach her or his full potential, and to share the exceptional stories they craft with readers.
Kvaad Press authors currently include Kari Donald, Kevin Killiany, and Gregor Loman. The hunt for new talent continues.

This was my first experience with Diana Peterfreund's world, and I'm glad I've discovered it. All the tropes of fantasy are in place, but even in this short work Peterfreund manages to impart enough dimension to each to save them from being cardboard set pieces. It is particularly satisfying to see unicorns depicted as though they might be part of a real-world ecosystem and yet imbued with their proper fantasy gravitas.
Chivalry: A Jake Savage Adventure
on Sep. 09, 2011
The subtitle is "A Jake Savage Adventure" but this is not an adventure of the type one might expect. The brutality of the period is accurately depicted -- a welcome change from the sanitized and idealized portrayals that are all too common. The ending is unexpected, but satisfying and fits well with the tone and nature of the story. I enjoyed it and will be looking for more of Jake's adventures in the future.
