Constance Grote was born in Topeka, Kansas, the first daughter of a family mired in the depression era. Her love of writing began in high school when she received an A in English class for a story about an incident that happened in Home Economics class. She began writing in adulthood and has attended various workshops and conferences. She has published poetry, memoirs and travel articles. A former administrative assistant, she wrote In the Shadow of the Past in evenings and weekends while working full-time. She lives in Colorado with her husband photographer Denis Grote.
