Karen Grote

Biography

Karen Grote has spent more than thirty years in Recreational Therapy, mostly in behavioral health settings. Since earning her master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Karen has worked to develop the profession as a therapist, supervisor, educator, and as a mentor. Her commitment to recreational therapy has led her to accept elected offices at the local, state, and national levels. She was one of the earlier presidents of the American Therapeutic Recreation Association, serving in FY 1991. In recent years Karen has guided the establishment of the Recreational Therapy Foundation by acting as its president.
