Karen Taylor

Biography

I've been writing and creating stories for most of my life. My first children's book -- The Toffee Makers -- is a tribute to my father who used to sit by my bed to listen to my tales about these magical sweet makers when I was a young child.

Since early adulthood I have worked as a journalist, getting back into creative writing just before the birth of my son 15 years ago.

I wrote Turbulence for my son when he was nine years old and obsessed with Star Wars, scouts and the Swiss Army. You may notice some of the influences in my book! He enjoyed it at the time, as did his friends.

And there's more to come. I'm working on a new young adult book at the moment and reworking a romantic thriller I wrote in the mid-nineties.

With a little encouragement I will add sequels to both The Toffee Makers and Turbulence.

More than anything I aspire to entertain my readers with good, plausible plots, action, humour and likeable -- sometimes even loveable -- characters. And, of course, you can expect a few baddies to hiss at. But nothing I write is black and white -- there are many naunces etched into the pages.

I hope you enjoy my work. I'd love to hear from you with any comments, requests and advice.
