Kieran J. Evans is a fledgling adult en route to either make a name for himself, or crash and burn; either way he’ll likely have a bit too much fun doing so in the process. When not hunched over his desk writing, he makes various artistic crowns of flowers, shells, and trash; or is being beaten up by other nerds with foam weapons. Alternatively, sleeping, because it’s good for what ails you. For further inquiries, you can track him down via social media.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Funny that you mention that, that particular story is included in "Dropping the Mask". When I was polishing the manuscript up for publishing, I was indulging in quite a bit of procrastination. I found myself sifting through boxes of my old school things. One of the books contained assessments from my first few years of standard education, about a worm that goes on a journey with his friends. I'm pretty sure the teacher both commended me on my creativity, and subsequently recommended to my parents that I seek professional help. It goes a bit dark. Running the natural course and all.
What is your writing process?
I was once told "write drunk, edit sober" by an author at a book fair; but that never really worked for me - there's a manuscript lying about that's covered in doodles of doodles and a recipe for a better hokey pokey put your left hand in, shake it all about. Mostly I act out scenes in my writing space, to get a feel for how things would work, how it would feel to be in a particular scenario, and really just as an excuse to throw myself about and do over the top melodramatic death scenes. It is quite fun, and it works well.
